Yet another new international backgammon tournament is taking place for the first time, The 'Dubai International Backgammon Tournament' opens from October 4th. And is organized in cooperation with Al Maha Advertising and Art Production with the event staged at the Ogaret Ramadan Tent at the Dubai Press Club Terrace.
Khalifa Saif Al Maqoodi, Chairman, Wesal Exhibitions organizing the tournament confirmed 'This is the first time that an International Backgammon Tournament is being held in Dubai in collaboration with the Dubai Press Club. 'He added, 'To allow media members to participate in the backgammon tournament, a special pre-qualifying match will be held for a week starting 4th October. The mainstream event will then take place from the 11th till 14th October. No details of prizes or entry fees are available at the moment. But there is no doubt that the prize and prestige that accompany the win are well worth competing for.
The tournament is being supported by a number of sponsors, which include the main sponsors Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, Crystal Arc and the Ogaret Restaurant, with the media sponsors Al Arabian Travel. TV, Dubai Times and Al Wesal Classifieds.
This tournament is sure to attract big name players and hopeful amateurs from around the international circuit and proves how much the game is infiltrating into the wider commercial enterprises becoming accepted as a genuine sponsorship opportunity, more details on the tournament entry fees and prizes will follow shortly.
